the first combined
moisturiser & hand sanitiser
for the mass market
A health and safety essential for everyday life
Currently there is no single product that offers a combined solution comprising:
- A World Health
Organisation
recommended hand
rub formulation - 70% or greater
alcohol content - Clinically tested
and proven - Safer-made
surfactant/paraben
free etc - High emollient
content moisturiser
to restore and protect skin
from dryness and damage
VIRAMEDIC™ has achieved all of these in a single standalone product. VIRAMEDIC™ has been designed and developed by practicing physicians at Viramal Limited, (led by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Simona Fiore), who are constantly exposed to the damage caused by hand hygiene. Viramal’s proprietary “safer-made” surfactant-free topical technology platform has been adapted to incorporate naturally derived high-emollient containing moisturisers in a WHO-recommended hand sanitiser formulation.
The PROBLEM with hand hygiene products
Hand hygiene products damage the skin through denaturation.
- Alcohol / detergents dissolve and remove natural oils and water binding capacity of the skin to cause dryness and irritation
- Impairment of the hydrolipid mantle of the skin surface and may also be responsible for development of contact dermatitis (only 22% apply skin cream).
- This can result in changes to skin flora resulting in more frequent colonisation by staphylococci and gram-negative bacilli.
Alcohol is considered safer than detergents; dryness and skin irritation remains an issue.
- The lipid-dissolving effect of alcohols is inversely related to their concentration.
- Ethanol tends to be less irritating than n-propanol or isopropanol (the latter being the most active ingredient amongst hand sanitisers).
WHO has recommended a minimum 70% alcohol concentration to be effective against COVID19.
- High concentration of alcohol = skin irritation and dryness.
- WHO recommends incorporating Glycerol, and humectant which can bind water from the air to the skin to help with dryness.
- Cheap and widely available = accessible to all, especially in developing countries.
- Does not address lipid-dissolving effect of alcohol.

About Viramal Limited & VIRAMEDIC™
Viramal is a women’s health research & drug development pharma company, focused on the delivery of its topical technologies to treat debilitating conditions like endometriosis and infertility, whilst protecting the woman where so many treatments fail.
VIRAMEDIC™ is based on the clinically developed and clinically tested ‘Elegant™’ consumer health portfolio which uses plant derived moisturisers and proprietary VIRAFREE™ technology to provide long-lasting moisturising and fast acting relief for a number of topical conditions, in particular the promotion of a healthy microbiome.
Viramal’s proprietary ‘safer-made’ topical technology platform is also present in its drug portfolio and facilitates drug delivery without unpleasant solvents. These include harsh excipients such as mineral oil which have been replaced with plant derived alternatives. In addition, Viramal’s surfactant-free technology emulsifies without dermatologically risking removing skin oils.
This advanced pharmaceutical technology has allowed Viramal to combine a WHO-recommended hand sanitiser formulation with a highly moisturising plant derived emollient system. Viramal’s emollient rich, natural moisturisers make up over 10% of its 2-in-1 hand sanitisers, which is significantly greater than found in most daily moisturisers. Other formulations use inexpensive humectants (glycerine) which attempt to attract water to the skin, rather than restorative, protective and nourishing softening and soothing emollients. Few emollients are present in similar competitor products and in high-end sanitisers, emollients take the form of essential oils, constituting less than 1% of the formulation.
